John Briner
W&L Subaru's Generosity Helps Dedicated Employee in Need
May 2023
John Briner is a dedicated man. Not just to his work, but also to his family. Like many people, he works two jobs to make ends meet - and a small setback can have a long-lasting effect. One job is for a department store where his shift starts in the early morning and continues until 10am; the other as a detailer for W&L Subaru where he works 11am to 8pm shifts, often working 12 to 14 hours daily, 6 days a week between the two. In early May of 2023, John was faced with a difficult situation when he was hospitalized with serious health issues. Unable to work for two weeks, John's absence from both jobs placed an enormous financial burden on him and his family. Thankfully, Becky Kline, a sales rep at W&L Subaru, saw this as an opportunity to help John and presented her idea to the general manager Gregg Bassett and the human resources director Shaunda Zeigler.Â
The idea was simple; employees could donate to help John, and W&L Subaru would match the donations dollar for dollar. The campaign was met with tremendous success, and on May 12, John was presented with $5,600 to help ease his financial burden - $2,700 just from his coworkers. The gesture was incredibly moving for John, who had no idea how much his W&L family cared about him and his family's well-being. John's supervisor, Tommy Carper chipped in a little extra paying to have John's truck inspected and for a full tank of gas.Â
Gregg and Shaunda presented the donations to John and at once tears were shed. It was a moment of joy and gratitude as they thanked him for his hard work and shared how much his W&L family wanted to help. It was a true testament to the sense of community and togetherness at W&L Subaru.Â
John was so grateful that he took to social media to share his sincere appreciation in a post to his dealership family: "I want to thank everyone from W&L Subaru for all the love and support through my time of need and illness. We are definitely more than a dealership, we are Family. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Love you all!!!!!!"Â
Taffie, John's wife, echoed his sentiments in a separate comment, conveying her gratitude: "Yes, thank W&L for your support during this time. It means the world to us both."
